Hussain Tahir Zaidi

Mr. Zaidi is a partner at Abdullah & Hussain and is heading the Corporate Practice. He specializes in merger, acquisition and joint venture deals and commercial & financial restructuring. Mr. Zaidi concentrates on advising companies and corporate directors in distressed situations to ensure smooth transitions. He  has broad experience in complex, multi-jurisdictional M&A transactions throughout South East Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. He counsels and represents clients on a wide variety of litigation, advisory and transactional matters from the banking and financial institutions, telecommunications, hospitality, information technology, and construction and real estate sector.

Mr. Zaidi began his career as a lawyer in 2001 and has been working on M&A deals and restructuring since 2007. His work at Dhabi Holdings and Warid Telecom International LLC has been of particular importance in this regard. In addition to this, Mr. Zaidi’s earlier experience at Warid Telecom International LLC, helped him achieve outstanding skills in drafting and finalizing a variety of agreements, including implementation and Supply agreements, Information Technology agreements, Loan Agreements, Data clearing and financial clearing agreements, International Roaming agreements, Joint Venture Agreements, Consultancy agreements, Software license agreements, Agreements for Telecommunication Banking Services.

Mr. Zaidi worked at Bhandari, Naqvi and Riaz, Lahore as a Senior Associate from May 2002 – November 2005. He was involved in many landmark Constitutional cases which included the case against the establishment of University of Health Sciences. In addition to this he also worked on complex international arbitration issues which included Ghazi Barotha, Muzafargarh Gatti and Baglihar Dam.

Mr. Zaidi has also worked as a Lecturer of the law of the European Union, University of London (External Programme) at University College Lahore from September 2000 to May 2011. He has also delivered lectures at Pak Aims School of Law and the Institute of Legal Studies (TILS) on different topics relating to the law of European Union and the law of Tort.

Umer Abdullah

Mr. Abdullah is a partner at Abdullah & Hussain and is an Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan. He heads the Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Department at the firm. Mr. Abdullah is a proactive, adaptable and conscientious barrister with vast and variegated legal experience of more than twelve years. He focuses his practice on Constitutional, Employment, Commercial, Corporate and complex Civil litigation.

Mr. Abdullah began his legal career in 2007 after being called to the Bar and since then he has gained significant experience in litigating cases in a wide variety of areas, with special emphasis on Constitutional and Employment law. He has been representing clients from banking and financial institutions, charitable foundations, energy, telecommunications, information technology, construction, pharmaceutical and real estate sector.

A few of the many notable cases that Mr. Abdullah has been part of include; litigation that challenged the shifting of Christian graveyards on the basis of the action being discriminatory and violating the rights of minorities;litigation challenging the vires of Parks & Horticulture Authority Regulations by which tax was imposed on display of sign boards; represented Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) in cases filed by employees who were laid off under the Voluntary Severance Scheme.

In addition to this, Mr. Abdullah is an articulate and diplomatic communicator with extensive experience in representing clients in arbitration proceedings. His principal clients are multi-national corporates and global financial institutions. His work with multi-national corporates and their senior executives includes high profile trials and cross – border transaction work.  Mr. Abdullah has also worked as a Lecturer of Land Law, University of London (External Programme) at University College Lahore from September 2007 to May 2012.

Mashal Ahmad Malik

Miss Ahmad is a member of the Firm’s litigation and corporate law teams. She has completed her LLB from University of London and is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants(ACCA).

Miss Ahmad’s area of expertise mainly include corporate consultancy, transactional work along with drafting and vetting of commercial contracts. She also has experience in advising clients from the energy and procurement sector. She is actively involved with the Firm’s High Court litigation, pertaining to constitutional and labour matters. She also handles corporate retainers for the firm, advising clients on licensing, leasing, financing, employment, labour, environment, and routine corporate matters and regulatory affairs. She is also involved in legislative drafting and policy matters.
